Previvor/Hereditary Breast Cancer

My story:

In 1997, at the age of 47, my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer.  It was devestating for everyone.  I clearly remember my Mom stating that she just knew she would have breast cancer.  She remembered that when her Mom was diagnosed at the age of 47 (in 1972), the doctor looked at my Mom and Aunt and said "One of you will develop breast cancer at some point."  I don't think that there was much information about breast cancer treatment in 1972.  My Grandma relates that no one talked about it and she was the only one that she knew that was diagnosed.  That doctor was right though.

So I am a woman who's Mom, Maternal Grandma and Maternal Great Grandma all had cancer.  Add in a Paternal Aunt who was also diagnosed and various other cancers within my family and you have risk factors.  My Mom is negative for BRCA mutations, but clearly, this is herditary.

In April 2013 I had my third abnormal mammogram.  This one resulted in an abnormal biopsy and started my part in the journey of breast cancer.

  1. Whoa whoa whoa. I am a sponsor of Holly at Sally/Jack, and I just clicked on your larger ad, because the name is catchy, and I am constantly sticking my foot in my mouth, and thinking to myself, "Did I really just say that?!?!"

I AM a Previvor!!!! I can't believe I just randomly clicked on your ad and found this. I NEVER click on ads (I know, right?! I advertise but don't click, what is wrong with me?) and I almost NEVER visit people's ACTUAL blogs where they have the fun stuff (and you literally have "The Fun Stuff"), because I read through a reader. What are the odds?!

Anyway, I wrote about it. :) I'm mid-series, actually. You can find my story HERE.

I am so sorry to hear of your abnormal biopsy, I need to look around your blog some more to figure out what else has happened since April 2013. My mom passed away of breast cancer 13 years ago. Her sister, cousin, aunt, and grandmother all had cancer, breast or ovarian. I DO carry BRCA2. It's scary stuff. I will be praying for you, and following along your journey! I AM PULLING FOR YOU, GIRL!!!
